Top 5 of the Worst French Performances in American Films

Famous stars in France, some actors tried to make it big in Hollywood. Unfortunately, some of their performances were really unforgettable, and not in a good way.

The idea seemed enticing. A one-on-one between Sharon Stone and the French actress Isabelle Adjani in a remake of the classical French movie Les Diaboliques, directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot. Released in 1996, Diabolique was not only a critical and commercial flop, but also solidified the death of Isabelle Adjani’s acting career in the United States. At the time, the press was particularly hard on the French actress and her duet with Sharon Stone. "I like Sharon, but one film is enough," said the French actress after the film's release in France ...

Unless you are a huge fan of Christopher Lambert, you have probably never seen Beowulf. This sci-fi feudal movie is so bad, it’s cult. The film sparked doubts of an American career for Lambert as well, and then two years later, any remaining hopes were crushed with the release of Highlander 5. On a positive note, he will be remembered across the Atlantic for his breakout role in Greystoke The Legend of Tarzan back in 1984.

Jean Reno undoubtedly has some popularity in the United States. He was known first for his French films like Leon:The Professionnal and The Deep Blue prior to the slew of American films in which he did not particularly distinguish himself. Let's consider for a moment Godzilla, Rollerball or Da Vinci Code where the mono-expressive Jean Reno didn’t exactly perform miracles.

http://peopledyinglikemarioncotillard.tumblr.com/ The title of this tumblr says it all. It refers to Marion Cotillard's performances (spoiler!) when her character dies in the film Batman: The Dark Knight Rises. Performance is a bit laughable, but don't forget her great roles in Inception, Contagion and Midnight in Paris.

Renowed actor in France, Lambert Wilson, actually confessed that he tried for several years to break into Hollywood. After playing the villain in The Matrix Reloaded, the French actor accepted a role in Catwoman in 2004, directed by the French director Pitof. Slaughtered by critics, the film was nominated for multiple Razzie Awards, a ceremony that "rewards" the worst films of the year.
