In order to find her runaway teenage son, a desperate mother contacts two former lovers from around the time when the boy was conceived, claiming to both that the child is their son and asking them to look for him. They are completely different men: Jean is a tough journalist who investigates the mafia, and Francois is a failed poet and a timid former teacher who was on the verge of committing suicide when he received the phone call. The two men both decide to search for the boy, meet up, and tell each other their stories without realizing they are looking fro the same kid…
