Toast to Catherine Deneuve!

The one and only Catherine Deneuve just had her birthday last week. One of France’s most eminent actresses of all time, Catherine Deneuve has worked with some of the greatest directors including François Truffaut, Claude Chabrol, Agnès Varda, and of course Jacques Demy, since her breakthrough performance in The Umbrellas of Cherbourg. Let’s celebrate her time-less beauty and talent with Palais Royal!, a French comedy about royal family written and directed by Valérie Lemercier (who also plays the protagonist) in which the Queen is played by, of course, Catherine Deneuve, the queen of French cinema.

When Arnaud’s father, the beloved king of a European country, passes away, his carefree life comes to an end as he jumps the order of succession and becomes the heir according to the arrangement of his mother, Queen Eugénia. His wife Armelle, an ordinary speech therapist, is reluctant to let go of her career and to become the object of public scrutiny. The pressure of being in the royal family gradually pushes her over the edge, and when she finds her husband in bed with her best friend, she decides to revolt against this oppressing mechanism by using its own power. She starts to use the media to promote herself at the expense of the royal family and successfully becomes beloved by the whole country…
