Summertime in France!

As Léo Ferré sang: “Avec le temps, va, tout s’en va …!

At 95, Jacqueline (Bouvier) Pagnol passed away on the 22nd of August 2016.  Her husband Marcel use to say that she was her tad of poetry and tenderness … As time passes, so do the summer holidays of our childhood.  Marcel Pagnol immortalized his holidays, and with it, a magnificent portray of French “Art de Vivre”, through two movies My Father’s Glory and My Mother’s Castle, which we let you (re)discover on VOD.

Too dreamy? Well, we’ve also got My Best Holidays, in which the definition of best holidays cannot do without conflicts in the heat wave.

My Father’s Glory

Adapted from the first volume of Marcel Pagnol's childhood memoirs, the film tells the story of young Marcel who was born before the turn of 20th century and raised in the busy port city Marseilles. His father Joseph was a schoolteacher and Marcel’s role model; his mother, the angel-like Augustine, was a seamstress who nourished him with the warmest love. Every year, this family spent their summer vacation in a cottage in the hills of Provence. One summer, Marcel met Lili, a local boy who knows every secrets of the hills, and the two curious minds soon became the best partners in their summer adventure in the breathtakingly beautiful nature.

Nominated for 4 César Awards in 1991.

In the sequel to My Father’s Glory, little Marcel still dreamed of returning to the cottage all the time. It was not enough to go during the Christmas, Easters, and summer holidays – Marcel wanted to be there all the time! Luckily, his family discovered a shortcut through which they could save 2 hours of travelling time. They started to visit the cottage almost every weekend. In addition to Marcel’s old pal Lili, Marcel met Isabelle, a pretty but conceited girl. Narrated by the adult Marcel, this is another enchanting story about a unique and beautiful childhood journey.
