The Fairy (La Fée)

NOT AVAILABLE ANYMORE TO STREAM ON NETFLIX. If I had to choose a favorite genre, (besides twisted Japanese and Korean horror) it would be films that tell the story of and glorify the misfits. The director/ writer/ starring trio of Dominique Abel, Fiona Gordon, and Bruno Romy illustrates a couple of soul mates that defy convention and build characters that share your deepest, darkest, insecurities.

A hotel clerk named Dom (Dominique Abel), whose high point in life is putting endless amounts of condiments on his sandwiches, is on duty when the story begins one dark and lonely night.

Fiona (Fiona Gordon), a self proclaimed fairy, appears as a guest at Dom's hotel and insists upon protecting him, and of course, granting him three wishes.

Fiona is steadfast in showing Dom the road to strength, love, and happiness, while dealing with a few bumps along the road of her own.

The film reenforces how wonderful it is to live life innocently and adventurously, with a sunny and child-like disposition at any age. Although not your typical romantic comedy, the movie is joyful and displays some whimsicality in its visuals and use of physicality.

Watch when in need of a pick-me-up.
