Bird People

NOT AVAILABLE ANYMORE TO STREAM ON NETFLIX. NOW AVAILABLE ON NETFLIX DVD.

Here's a different option. Pascale Ferran's Bird People is an unexpected journey into obvious symbolism, every day fantasy, and of course, flight.

Up and coming Josh Charles plays Gary Newman, a Silicone Valley Titan on a business trip in Paris, who has seemingly achieved the American dream to the umpteenth degree.

Anaïs Demoustier is Audrey, a lovable, albeit meek, hotel housekeeper at the hotel where Gary stays on one of his many business trips.

Even when considering Gary's enviable wealth and success, it's not enough from keeping him from having the same ultimate dream as Audrey- to fly away from it all- the expectations, the failures, the incompatible spouses, and the career with superhuman demands. None of us are truly free, and thus we wish we were birds.

Although the theatrical concept of characters metaphorically turning into birds and  shamelessly escaping all of life's responsibility sounds ideal, the film is a bit literal. That's not to say that we don't respect the whimsical and relatable message.

If you like where you are and where you're going in life at the moment, maybe wait on this one. If you're in a darker, more restless, wanting to up and leave kind of mood, by all means, enjoy.
