Beauty and the Beast (La Belle et la bête)
Oops, just missed it! This film is no longer available on Netflix. You can never have too many cinematic depictions of the beloved French tale, Beauty and the Beast (La Belle et La Bête, 2014).
If you're in the mood for sumptuous cinematography and big name actors in your fairytales, this is the romance drama for you. This version also brings to the table an unexpected level of action to the children's classic.
Léa Seydoux is even more captivating than usual with an 18th century frock and penetrating stare. It's also a testament her to her versatility as we're used to seeing her in rebellious and no nonsense roles, such as Blue is the Warmest Color and Madeleine in Spectre. Here she shows off a surprising vulnerability and innocence.
Cassel is cast perfectly as the mysterious human monster who hides a dark secret and a complicated back story.
So this weekend, consider letting Christophe Gans' visually transcending piece of epic proportions into your home to brighten up your January and enjoy the ride.
