For a Yellow Jersey

Synopsis

Celebrate the 100th year of the Tour de France with several documentaries including Louis Malle’s Vive le Tour (1962, 17 min.), an energetic evocation of the Tour de France that reveals the director’s eternal fascination with, and respect for, the everyday lives of everyday people. For a Yellow Jersey (Pour un maillot jaune) by Claude Lelouch (France, 1965, 20 min.). This wonderful film brings the hunt for the Yellow Jersey alive. Made three years after Louis Malle's Vive le Tour, Lelouch's film was made with the big screen in mind and is more cinematic in its scale than Malle's. Lelouch lets the beautiful images of the Tour tell the story, which he sets against a brilliant and quite absorbing soundtrack.
