Five years before his twenties retro-styled film The Artist won five Academy Awards (including Best Film and Director) director Michel Hazanavicius made this retro-styled parody of sixties spy films starring The Actor’s Academy Award winning Dujardin. Though most critics described it as Austin Powers with a political edge, Roger Ebert and Atlanta’s Curt Holman dissented. They thought it was Austin Powers with a political edge that was actually funny.
