Marguerite & Julien

Synopsis

One of France’s most innovative young filmmakers, Donzelli (Declaration of War) freely adapts the story of incestuous 17th-century aristocratic siblings—from a screenplay originally written for Truffaut—in her latest. Julien (Donzelli’s regular collaborator Jérémie Elkaïm) and Marguerite (Anaïs Demoustier) have loved each other tenderly since childhood, but as they grow up, their affection veers toward voracious passion. Scandalized by their affair, society hounds them until they make a desperate escape.
