Roger Vadim wrote and directed this modern adaptation of the salacious 1782 novel by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos. Setting it in present day (late-1950s) France, Vadim’s version stars Gérard Philipe, Jeanne Moreau, and Annette Stroyberg. Today, it is hard to believe that the film was so scandalous as to be initially censored.
