Diary of a Country Priest

Synopsis

One of the great spiritual works of cinema, Bresson’s breakthrough film concerns the crisis of faith suffered by a devout young priest (Laydu, the first and one of the most perfect of the director’s “models”) as he endures the ridicule and indifference of his parishioners. Bresson reaches for—and achieves—the transcendent through a hushed, ecstatically austere style.
