Bookended by his mother and his girlfriend Aurelie—who smothers him until the next best thing comes along—Michel is frustrated and immobilized; while selling appliances and attempting to land bit parts as an actor, he obsesses about both his birth and his inevitable death. Meanwhile, his mother, who has cancer, requires his care, which he metes out with disdain. As his anxiety builds, Michel comes to believes he himself is dying—also from breast cancer—and his whole comically miserable world begins to crumble around him.
