Synopsis

A satire on contemporary French cinema by former Cahier du Cinema critic Assayas about a past-his-prime filmmaker fixated on the idea of featuring HK action star Maggie Cheung (as herself) in an updating of Louis Feuillade’s legendary silent crime serial. Scripted in ten days and shot in hand-held super-16mm in three weeks, the caught on the fly, documentary-like results electrified both critics and audiences who’d thought French cinema’s best days were behind it.
