Hissein Habre, a Chadian Tragedy

Synopsis

In 2013, Habré’s arrest in Sénégal was a decisive breakthrough in a 23-year struggle pitting the ex-tyrant against survivors. This documentary by Mahamat-Saleh Haroun (FFC 2009, Sex, Gombo and Salted Butter; FFC 2011, A Screaming Man; FFC 2014 Grigris) gives voice to the victims, who have shown that with courage and obstinacy, it is possible to bring a dictator to justice. The survivors wanted to make sure that those who committed crimes did not go unpunished. This universal story aims to put words to the untold tales that are marked in the skin of the victims, who still wonder how it is possible to live after having been through such monstrous events. It’s also a film about Africa and its relationship with the rest of the world.
