Oscars: Two French films short-listed for Best Animated Feature

Two French co-productions are among the 25 titles announced on October 25 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as official submissions in the Best Animated Feature Film category.

While it's no surprise that the United States and Japan lead the show in terms of the number of films pre-selected (8 titles each), two co-productions majority-produced by France are also included in the 25 submissions: the French-Luxembourg production Tall Tales from the Magical Garden of Antoon Krings, by Antoon Krings and Arnaud Bouron (Onyx Films, Bidibul Productions), and the French-Japanese production Mutafukaz (Ankama Animations, Studio 4°C), which has just been released in the United States (full listing here).

The nominees in this Oscars category will be announced on January 22, 2019, in the lead-up to the 91st Academy Awards ceremony on February 24.

The complete list of competing titles in the Best Animated Feature Film category can be found on the Cartoonbrew website.
