The Best of COLCOA on VOD– Round 3
We continue our collection of French films exclusively available on digital through UMW, with a pair of titles that premiered at COLCOA in 2014.
Jacky in the Kingdom of Women (Jacky au Royaume des Filles) was hailed by Variety as “a gender bending farce with more than a touch of Monty Python” that makes “audiences question, via absurdist counter-equivalents, patriarchal assumptions of modern life”. In a slightly less high brow entry Superchondriac represents everything we have come to know and love about Dany Boon: laugh out load, utterly silly, knowingly sly, and enormously fun.
Jacky in the Kingdom of Women (Jacky au royaume des filles)
In the People’s Democratic Republic of Bubunne, it's the women who are in power, who give the orders and who fight the wars, while the men wear veils and look after the home. One young man, Jacky, has a desperate fantasy - to marry the Colonelle, daughter of the ruling dictatrix known as the Generale. But when the Generale decides to organize a grand ball to find a husband for her daughter, things look bad for Jacky and he sees his dream start to slip away.
As absurd yet acerbic as satire comes, packed with snappy french wit and a fantastic cast - including French film and fashion icon Charlotte Gainsbourg (Melancholia, Antichrist), filmmaker and activist Anémone, and Oscar winner Michel Hazanavicius (The Artist).

Superchondriac (Supercondriaque)
The story of hapless 39-year-old medical photographer Romain Faubert (Boon), a raging hypochondriac who we find in precisely the wrong line of work: a medical photographer! His only friend, Dr. Zvenka (Merad) believes the only cure for Romain’s disorder is to find a love interest. Enter Anna (newcomer Alice Pol), Dr. Zvenka’s beautiful sister. However, things are not so simple, as Anna mistakes the wimpy Romain for a famously macho freedom fighter from the fictional land of Turkystan…
A huge box office hit in France starring Dany Boon and Kad Merad from Welcome to the Sticks. Another sidesplittingly funny pic from Dany Boon delivers everything you want in a crowd-pleasing and family friendly French comedy!
