Alain Delon Collection – Round 1

Classics should never be forgotten. As one of France’s icon actors who is described as “the superstar who redefined French cool,” Alain Delon is mostly known for his remarkable performance in Le Samourai (1967). However, there are many other of his films – whether as actor, director, or producer – that are worth to watch.  This week, let’s indulge ourselves in two classic French crime thrillers from the 70s, both directed by the master of this genre and Delon’s longtime partner Jacques Deray.

Borsalino & Co.

Sequel to Borsalino (1970), featuring Alain Delon and Jean-Paul Belmondo and is compared to Godfather that appeared later in the decade, Borsalino & Co. follows the gangster Siffredi (played by Alain Delon) in Marseille who swears to revenge for his partner after a Mafia funeral. He soon discovers the killer he is looking for is an Italian businessman Volpone. By murdering Volpone’s brother, Siffredi and Volpone start an all-out war. While Volpone gains complete control over Marseille by allying himself with politician, Siffredi has no other way but flees the town. However, it does not take too long before Siffredi returns with a private army that will help him with his ultimate vengeance.

Cop Story is based on the popular story of French police detective Roger Borniche’s 9 years pursuit of French gangster and murderer Emile Buisson. Escaping from a psychiatric institution in 1947, Buisson returned to Paris and started a deadly rampage in the city. With his own methodical approach, Borniche hunted Buisson throughout the French capital, sometimes cut through bureaucratic red tape in order to do his job. After numerous gunfights, car chases and rooftop pursuits, when the serial killer was finally captured, he had committed over 30 murders and 100 robberies.
