Sex Doll

The French are never afraid to tackle a compelling prostitution drama, and we found ourselves engrossed in an interesting one this week.

César Award winning Hafsia Herzi stars as Virginie in Sex Doll (2016). Virginie is a chic, wise beyond her years high-end call girl who navigates London's underground prostitute scene, with the protection of her madame, Raphäelle (Karole Rocher).

Sylvie Verheyde paints a picture of what it means to be a modern woman dabbling in an underworld where only the strong survive. With Rocher playing the fully dimensional employer with the emotional might of a mob boss and young Virginie displaying stoic professionalism, Sex Doll at first glance seems to escape the cliché female victimization that would normally permeate this sort of story.

Enter Rupert (Ash Stymest), stepping up to the plate as our leading lady's gritty, hardened knight in shining armor.

Valentines day is a few months away, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy a steamy, unconventional romantic drama this very moment on Netflix.
